Wordless Wednesday #126 Rexford Wye

Just south of the Rexford Tunnel at MP 184 there used to be a wye track, possibly used for turning helper engines assisting with the long grade out of the Ohio River Valley. According to the W&LE valuation maps the wye was retired on 8-6-1923, but in Google Maps Terrain mode you can still see the remnants of the wye's road bed after 94 years.

  1. Chris,

Sounds like another "Field Trip" is necessary!

    1. I wouldn't mind heading back down that way sometime, unfortunately that area doesn't seem very accessible without a good hike along the tracks.

  2. I'm game for a road trip! It's not even 1/4 mile from the north end by Nemeth Rd, and about 1/2 mile from the south end down by US22. My biggest worry would be from the people that live around there and whether they think we might be trespassing or something...

    1. I agree with the trespassing and while I'm curious out the wye and Rexford Tunnel area, I'm not sure if I'm that curious :)
